Source identification in the field of aero-acoustics

Since the 50's of the last century, the research field of flow acoustics has been accompanied by a steadily growing interest in the engineering discipline. Starting with the works of Lighthill, Curle, Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings and continuing with Lilley, Goldstein and Ewert, a large number of so-called acoustic analogies were created to compute the sound radiation of flow immersed bodies.

In addition to the widely used Linearized Euler Equations (LEE), the Acoustic Perturbation Equations (APE) and the Linearized Navier-Stokes Equations (LNSE), Galbrun's formulation, which has been less common up to now, is also known. This formulation, published in 1932, describes the acoustic field in a flow using a mixed Euler-Lagrangian approach. In addition to the mathematically more complex description, Galbrun's formulation offers interesting advantages with respect to conventional approaches.

The existing theories are extended and possible source terms are identified, which are then compared with already establish formulations. As a result of the novel mathematical formulations, source identification can be seen as a contribution to the physical understanding of flow acoustics and its nature.
