Research goal

Predict the generation of noise by turbulent flames. Understand the relevant flow-flame-acoustic interactions. Ultimately, we want to devise and assess the effectiveness of approaches to reduce combustion noise Financial support by ANR/DFG is gratefully acknowledged!

Hypothesis

The spectral distribution of combustion noise from confined flames is shaped by the acoustic and intrinsic thermo-acoustic (ITA) resonances. For prediction a two-way coupling approach is needed that considers the dynamic response of a flame to acoustic perturbations.
