New PhD students at the Thermodynamics Institute

Three new doctoral students have joined us since the turn of the year.

After the very successful long-term collaboration within BigCCS in Norway (www.bigccs.no), the Thermodynamics Institute of the TUM has become a research partner of NCCS (www.nccs.no), the Norwegian research program on Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) succeeding BigCCS. Florian Franke will investigate the flame dynamics in gas turbine reheat combustors, which are particularly promising for the use of hydrogen in gas turbines.

Jan-Andre Rosenkranz and Stephen Gitau will strengthen our team that is working on high-frequency combustion oscillations. In a project (RoBoFlex) financed by the BMWi and Siemens, they will investigate the dynamics of jet flames used in future generations of gas turbine combustion chambers. The goal of their work is to identify and model the additional driving mechanisms specifically occurring in this type of flame.
